Fiestas de Chile (Sept. 19, 2022)

So this last week is one I'll probably remember for the rest of my life haha. Starting off with Tuesday we had exchanges and I was with Elder Holman here in San Fernando and had to lead the whole day and it was awesome. We don't speak Spanish very well so we were a little worried about being in lessons or visits and not understanding anything or being able to say anything either, so we prayed for the gift of tongues and interpretation and we absolutely received it. Each and every visit was a miracle for how well we could speak and understand, it was literalmente loco! I had my birthday on Friday and that just so happened to be the huge party for the branch. They had a ton of grills cooking up meat for us and it was so so good. We played a ton of games and just had a blast, lots of people showed up too. A funny story is Elder Merrell had everyone sing happy birthday to me and it was cool and all, but after I had a bunch of the grown men run up to me and grab me and take me out on the court in front of everyone then they pickedme up and started throwing me in the air, they threw me 19 times hahaha. I wouldn't have had a problem if I knew what was going on, I was just a little freaked out cuz I had no clue what was going on. Now I know this is a tradition and it's normal haha, we went to a birthday party Saturday and threw Edgar in the air 18 times, so I guess I just keep learning these cultural things more and more every day haha. One super sad thing is we had transfers and Elder Merrell is gone and off to be the new AP, it was so cool to live with someone else from Wyoming, but I guess that's another thing the mission is going to teach me is to get used to change haha.

Anyways, for something spiritual that I have been able to learn is that we really aren't capable of a whole lot without God. This is the perfect scripture to explain this, in Alma 26:12 it says:

Yea, I know that I am anothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will bnot boast of myself, but I will cboast of my God, for in his dstrength I can do all ethings; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever.

After I have a visit where I am understanding or speaking well I feel like maybe I'm really getting Spanish but then there are still so many times where it's a real struggle. For example, with Elder Holman we had so much success with Spanish and the very next day I can't even say quiero compartir algo, so I honestly think this is the lesson I need to learn. We can do anything with the power of God, without him we're pretty weak, pretty mid honestly. It is important to always turn our lives over to the Lord, especially in difficult times, "Seek not to counsel the Lord, Seek to receive counsel from him." I know that if we can apply this in our lives we can receive so many blessings and we will recognize God so much more.

I love to hear updates from home so if you have a sec shoot me a message about what makes your life so great.

Elder Micheli
